The National Gallery of Iceland is pleased to announce the publication of a magnificent, richly-illustrated new catalogue in connection with two forthcoming exhibitions: Björk -- Echolalia, and James Merry – Metamorphlings, on view at the museum from May 31 – October 4, 2026.
An artist interview by the writer-poet Oddný Eir, delves into the intersection of the artists’ creative collaborations on the conceptual “worldbuilding” in Björk’s most recent albums.
An essay by the writer Hólmar Hólm discusses the evolution of Merry’s craftsmanship and design work over the past decade, focusing on the origins of and inspirations for meanings to be found in his masks, body ornament, and ritual objects.
Excerpts from a conversation between Björk and the poet Ocean Vuong offer insights into mining the emotional depths of loss and grief through creativity. Another conversation, between Björk and curator-art historian Hans Ulrich Obrist, reveals discusses the expansive range of media Björk has explored over time.
