Flokkur: Muggur / Guðmundur Thorsteinsson

Guðmundur Thorsteinsson, called Muggur, is a beloved figure in Icelandic art history . Born in the West Fjords in 1891, he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art in Copenhagen later returning to Iceland to become an accomplished painter and graphic artist, as well as a local movie star, before his untimely death from tuberculosis at age 32. His works include landscapes, genre scenes, and religious subjects, but he also excelled at creating delightfully imaginative illustrations of fairy tales and folklore.
